Welcome to issue 5 of the SSRadio newsletter

Welcome to issue 5. This week we take five with José Gonzalez and Luis Romero, tell you about the relaunched SSRadio forums, remind you of some upcoming UK events that we're involved with, and announce a new competition to win a copy of the latest Bargooves competition CD.

Return of the forums!

Mobile phone iconWhen we launched the new SSRadio site at the beginning of the year, many of you were quick to notice that the once-popular forums had disappeared. Sadly, over the course of time, the original SSRadio forums had become overrun with fraudulent accounts posting all sorts of SPAM.

But not being ones to let the spammers win, we relaunched the forums last month with a brand new look and feel, unifying the user registrations with the main site so that only one login is required. Coupled with e-mail confirmation on registration, this has kept the spammers at bay and the forums are starting to return to their former glory.

With the recent threat of closure of several popular forums such as the Defected forum, the need for a central place for the dance music community to congregate and discuss the latest hot topics in the scene is greater than ever, so if you haven't yet visited the new SSRadio forums - what are you waiting for?!

Taking Five with... José Gonzalez and Luis Romero

José Gonzalez photoThis week, hosts of the Fresh Sol Radio show, José Gonzalez and Luis Romero, chats to us about what makes them tick when it comes to music...

  1. Describe the music you play?

At the moment we are playing many different types of music. There are so many great tracks and songs out now. Vocals have really made a comeback as well. We usually play anything soulful, tribal, techy and quality vocals.

  2. Who are your inspirations, ie. musicians/producers etc?

We have always been inspired by Masters at Work, Vega Records and Defected Records artists and producers. At the moment we are feeling all the sounds coming out of South Africa like Bhoddi Satva then there's Jimpster, Yass, Rocco and Franck Roger. Then there are our local favorites like José Burgos, Louie "Lou" Gorbea, Duce Martinez and Fresh Sol Music, of course ;)

  3. What are your current top 3 tracks?
    1. Mary J Blige - P.M.S (Quentin Harris Remix)
    2. GramophoneDzie - Why Don't You
    3. Duce Martinez - Just As Long
  4. What is your most memorable set or DJ moment?

Most memorable was opening up for Little Louie Vega at the White Party in Brooklyn last year. Cameron Da DJ asked me to come and play at Club Langston with Louie headlining, of course. I was ecstatic! The night was filled with many friends of mine, Cameron and Louie. It was a great feeling when Louie shook my hand and said nice set! The night was also sponsored by our good friends over at Traxsource.

  5. Tell us something we don't know about José Gonzalez and Luis Romero?

Luis and I are working hard in the studio. We will be dropping a few tracks on multiple labels through our Fresh Sol Music moniker this year. We have tracks coming out on Omi Tutu, Nulu Music, Cabana Recordings, Jakdat Records plus collaborations with Andy Ward, Duce Martinez and DJ Mr. V. Check out our music under our label Fresh Sol Music at Traxsource

You can catch Fresh Sol Radio on SSRadio's Deep & Soulful channel every Tuesday at 02:00 UK time (Monday 21:00 EST) . And if you can't catch it live, you can of course listen again and podcast at your leisure.
