Welcome to issue 2 of the SSRadio newsletter

Well, we're into June already, and the sun has been shining here in the UK for a good week now, so it definitely feels like summer has started - let's hope so!

With Miami already feeling like a distant memory, the Ibiza season has officially kicked off, and no doubt many of you are starting to get excited about impending holidays to the white isle and beyond.

So without further ado, we are pleased to bring you the second installment of our all new weekly newsletter...

Tune-in on the move!

Mobile phone iconJust as iPods and other portable MP3 players have allowed us to take our favourite music with us wherever we go, the popularity of web-enabled phones means that it is now just as easy to tune-in to internet radio while on the move.

If you own a recent Nokia, check out their Internet Radio application and search for SSRadio (or browse for us by genre under 'Dance'). iPhone users can either use a radio tuner app, or open one of our direct links in Safari to stream via the Quicktime player: Deep & Soulful Tuff & Twisted Hard & Fast Funk & Disco Lounge & Chill

If you get stuck, just give us a shout and we'll do our best to get it working for you.

Taking Five with... Rubi R-Tres

DJ Rubi R-Tres photoComing with a recommendation from none other than DJ Disciple, it was a no-brainer that we signed-up DJ Rubi R-Tres for a show on SSR. Following her debut show, we asked her a few questions to find out a bit more about the lady they call "Brooklyn's best-kept secret"...

  1. Describe the music you play?

Well for starters, I must say I love playing all kinds of House Music. Whether its Soulful, Techno, Electro, Progressive, Acid, Broken-Beat, Dub, Lounge, Percussion, or Classics. All these genres of House Music must contain these elements: a Deep Bass-Line, Dreamy Strings, Hi-Hats, and Claps. When I search for NEW tracks, I make sure the tracks have that old school flavor, and that I am open to NEW sounds as well. I truly love sounds that reach my MIND, BODY & SOUL, but most of all, that make me wanna DANCE!

  2. Who are your inspirations, ie. musicians/producers etc?

Wow, I definitely have a list, LOL! I grew up to DJ DISCIPLE back in the 90's in New York City, listening to him on 91.5 FM, and thru DJ DISCIPLE, I grew up listening to Larry Heard, Kerri Chandler, Glenn Underground, Ron Trent & Wayne Gardiner. Currently, I've taken an interest learning about other talented producers like Vince Watson, Vince Ragone, Derrick May, Carl Craig, Chymera, Rocco, & Nick Holder. I have many more to mention, but these are my top artist inspirations.

  3. What are your current top 3 tracks?
    1. Pong (Ben Klock's Bones & String Rework) by Kerri Chandler
    2. The Return of Classic Man (Dancing Strings) by Wayne Gardiner
    3. Morning Drive (Vince Watson Reconstruction) by Shirazi
  4. What is your most memorable set or DJ moment?

I guess I would have to say when I was playing at Jan Larsen's "XPO Art Gallery" in Dumbo, Brooklyn. I was just getting my feet wet as a new DJ, and I was nervous as hell to play because it was my first real gig. It was a 12 hour marathon, and the location was HOT because the Manhattan bridge was staring right in the huge garage door entrance of the gallery. I got on the decks at 1am in front of 500-600 people, not including who was still outside trying to get in. I spun along with Jeannie Hopper, and other DJ's as well, and It was streamed live on WPS1.org. All I remember feeling was good after my set, because the feedback I got was GREAT!

  5. Tell us something we don't know about Rubi R-Tres?

I am very in touch with music to the point that I need it & breath it. I can't see myself without music in my life - period. It is a part of me, and I really enjoy expressing myself through my sets. I am fan of all kinds of music, but not a fan of politics. I hope to always stay the same and never let this business change me. I just wanna reach people musically, THE END.

You can catch Rubi's show, R-Tres Revival Rhythms, on SSRadio's Deep & Soulful channel every other Tuesday at 00:00 UK time. And if you can't catch it live, you can of course listen again and podcast at your leisure.
