With just two weeks until Christmas, no doubt many of you are starting to look forward to a bit of time off work and some well deserved R'n'R - as well as plenty of festive partying of course! So on that note, you'll be pleased to know about a massive Dennis Ferrer & The Martinez Brothers gig in London. We also reveal Defected's 'Most Rated' tracks of 2009 as voted for by you, take five with Junior Scott from the Flight show, and let you know how you can win a pair of tickets to the aforementioned DF & TMB event. Enjoy :)

Defected announce the most-rated tracks of 2009

Most Rated 2009 logoJust over a month ago, Defected Records decided to ask the question "What has been your biggest track of the year?". The result is the first and only user-generated dance music compilation of it's kind, where the final track list is compiled according to the votes of clubbers worldwide. Now that the voting has closed and the results counted, they have compiled the final track listing of the biggest club tracks of the year according to the votes of dance music fans across the globe.

Late contenders included Dennis Ferrer's 'Hey Hey', the massive track that has received more heat in the last 4 weeks than any other Defected track this year. Also Reboot 'Enjoy Music' that has received 7 Pete Tong plays back-to-back, week-on-week! Other huge inclusions to make it onto the playlist were Axwell, Ingrosso, Angello & Laidback Luke featuring Deborah Cox 'Leave The World Behind' and Michel Cleis featuring Totó La Momposina 'La Mezcla' (Copyright Main Mix). All now officially have the title of the 'Most Rated' tunes of 2009.

You can check out the full tracklisting and purchase the album (or any of the tracks individually) by visiting the Defected Store. And as a special bonus for our beloved listeners, we have negotiated a 25% discount for you off the price of the album - just enter code VOTED09 at checkout :)

Dennis Ferrer & The Martinez Brothers in London!

Dirty London @ Matter photoHere at SSRadio HQ we have been priviledged to witness both Dennis Ferrer and The Martinez Brothers perform individually on several occasions, but only in at the WMC in Miami have we had the pleasure of seeing them both on the same bill. So when we heard a rumour that they were all coming to the UK together to perform in London, we were itching to find out more!

Recent Grammy-nominee Dennis Ferrer surely needs no introduction by now. Head honcho of the awesome Objektivity label, Dennis has been at the top of his game for several years now, and with the huge buzz surrounding his latest track 'Hey Hey', he looks set to stay up there for some time.

You may or may not, however, be quite so familiar with The Martinez Brothers - the young protégées of Mr Ferrer of whom he recognised a raw talant at an early age and has been nurturing ever since. If you've heard the hype but not been convinced, then we can vouch for their talent. Watching them behind the decks, they don't stop moving. Lean, lanky, all wrists and elbows and ear-to-ear grins, these kids look like they were born to move. They practically climb over each other as records flow together, one brother cueing up a track, the other EQ'ing, the headphones passed back and forth, forearms intertwined, heads bobbing in unison. It's amazing to watch, even more amazing to hear.

We could rave on about them all day, but they really do have to be seen to be believed, so on Sunday 27th December, Dirty London bring you an unmissable opportunity to see both these amazing acts together in the UK at one of London's hottest new super-clubs, Matter in the O2, alongside a strong supporting line-up including Phil Asher and Bugz in the Attic.

So don't miss out. Buy your tickets online now before they sell out - or even better enter our latest competition to win a pair of tickets for free!

Taking Five with... Junior Scott

Junior Scott photoThis week we take 5 with Junior Scott, who, alongside DJ partner Jez Clement, hosts the popular bi-weekly Sunday night show Flight - two hours of the deepest, techiest House music money can buy (but free for you the SSR listener :)

We asked him the usual questions to gain a bit more of an insight into what floats his boat...

  1. Describe the music you play?

Deep, techy, cosmic, hypnotic groovers and rollers.

  2. Who are your inspirations, ie. musicians/producers etc?

Back in the day the Grooverider DJ sets. Colin Dale and Colin Favor's late night shows on Kiss FM. Later, Miles Holloway and Elliott Eastwick. They did a mix that came out on Pagan records called 'In At The Deep End'. I listened to that and I was like "What is this sound?!". Also when I started shopping for my vinyl at Swag Records and got into Terry Francis, Nathan Coles, Asad Rizvi and Eddie Richards. These guys are all pioneers of the tech house sound. More recently i have been heavily inspired by the German producers. Artists like Daniel Stanfanik, Minz, Terry Lee Brown Jnr, Motorcitysoul and all those Berlin boyz.

  3. What are your current top 3 tracks?
    1. Ethyl & Huxley - If The Pope Shits In The Woods And No One Is Watching [Cecille Numbers]
    2. Keosidle - La Onde [Plastic City]
    3. Smokin Hawt - Da Funk (Scott Bradford & Mark Lowry Remix) [Forenic]
  4. What is your most memorable set or DJ moment?

Probably when DJ'ing at a summer solstice party in the beautiful countryside setting of Buckinghamshire. It was wicked, I played in the main tent. There were Hell's Angels walking about and naked fire-eaters in the swimming pool, it was a crazy do!

  5. Tell us something we don't know about Junior Scott?

I Used to race BMX bikes in the 80's and was a boxer for 8 years.

You can catch Flight on SSRadio's Deep & Soulful channel every-other Sunday at 20:00 UK time. And if you can't catch it live, you can of course listen again and podcast at your leisure.
