Welcome to issue 3 of the SSRadio newsletter

Welcome to issue 3! This week we bring you five with Drew Harding from Spin Out Records, tell you how you can link an avatar to your SSRadio account, and let you know about some SSRadio events happening in the next month. Enjoy!

Have you seen this person?!

Mobile phone iconDo you know what an avatar is? Well, in internet terms it refers to an online user's graphical representation of themselves, i.e. a profile picture or other image associated with a screen name. It's a great way of bringing a bit of personality to an otherwise anonymous online presence!

SSRadio is fully compatible with the universal 'gravatar' service. A gravatar, or globally recognized avatar, is quite simply an image that follows you from site to site appearing beside your name when you do things, such as leave a comment.

If you haven't already created a gravatar, it's easy and free - just visit gravatar.com and sign up. You can then choose an image to associate with an e-mail address, which will be displayed on any gravatar-enabled site that you have registered with using that e-mail address. You can upload a picture from your computer, enter the URL of an image already online - even take a photo using your webcam!

If you get stuck, just give us a shout and we'll do our best to get it working for you.

Taking Five with... Drew Harding

Spin Out Records photoWe catch up with Drew Harding from Spin Out Records and chat to him about their fortnightly show The Weekend Recovery.

  1. Describe the music you play?

We play deep, tech, minimal, house, techno and anything in between. The music policy is very open as long as it’s cool, underground material and gets the dancefloors moving, then we play it.

  2. Who are your inspirations, ie. musicians/producers etc?

We have many producers involved with Spin Out Records and they inspire us alot. People like Adam Shaw are a shining beacon for dance music with his positive open attitude and his quality of productions. We also get inspired by labels that show a good ethos of providing top underground releases, labels like OFF, Liebe*Detail, Bloop, VIVa etc are all labels that inspire us.

  3. What are your current top 3 tracks?
    1. Reuben Keeney - 'Saxophone' (Paolo Mojo Remix) [Spin Out Records]
    2. Simon Baker - 'Way Out Of My Head' (Julien Chaptel Remix) [2020 Vision]
    3. Angel Mora & Ralfus - 'Que Buen Ritmo' (Loko Remix) [Soulman Music]
  4. What is your most memorable set or DJ moment?

Most memorable DJ moment is when I managed to get two vinyls perfectly in sync on my old decks in my bedroom... the feeling of overwhelming joy at the realisation I had finally managed to mix - priceless!

  5. Tell us something we don't know about Spin Out Records?

Spin Out Records is turning 5 years old in October - did you know that?!

You can catch The Weekend Recovery, on SSRadio's Tuff & Twisted channel every other Monday at 20:00 UK time. And if you can't catch it live, you can of course listen again and podcast at your leisure.

Tune in on the move - redux

After last issue's feature on tuning in to SSRadio on the iPhone and Nokia mobile devices, we received several e-mails asking about other types of phone. Well, users of Android-based phones might want to try the StreamFurious application, and Blackberry owners should be able to stream via the native media player as long as they have v4.5+ of the OS - just visit SSRadio in the Blackberry's browser and click the 'listen' link. Let us know if you're still stuck!

That's it for this issue, we hope you enjoyed reading. Of course, we're always looking for ways to improve it, so if you have any comments or suggestions, please do let us know.

And if you do like it, why not share it on Facebook, Tweet it, or just e-mail it to a friend?
