Profile: Stuart Has always had a love and passion for music from the past.. Soul, Disco, Funk and all in between from the late 60's through the 70's and into the early 80's as well as a growing love for early house music. Stuart picked up his first set of belt drive turntables at the age of 16 and set to work at learning the Art of blending some tunes together... embarrassingly at this stage he was still 'badly' playing Hardcore (come on, he was only 16) but started to mellow his sound out after regularly hearing some ace local talent play every Friday and Saturday night in the second room of a local club. Although this was a 'shirts and shiny shoe' club, There was always an awesome atmosphere and great music. The sound was predominantly Soulful/funky house with the odd classic thrown in. This along with regular jaunts through to Glasgow for a night out, totally changed his sound to a deep/soulful/disco'i house vibe. after a move to the Scottish Capital, A few years later.. He moved in with Long time pal and a top Scottish club promoter which luckily launched him onto the pub/club scene in Edinburgh (it definitely is 'who you know' as they say). He spent a few years playing guest sets at some of the top night in town as well as most of the top pre-club bars in the area. He then landed a back room residency at the massive 'progression' club night, as well as regularly playing in room 2 for the long running/top scottish club night 'taste'. Which meant he landed the opportunity to play back to back with his most respected DJ 'Martin Valentine' After this, Stuart hung up the headphones for a while due to setting up his own graphic design business and soon finding out working behind the decks 4 nights a week does not mix with a full time office job! fast forward a few years. A few things happened which spurred him on to dust off the old head phones and get back on the horse. Firstly hearing Greg Wilsons Essential mix from 2009 (which he still classes as the best mix he has ever heard) as well as being handed a Mix on CD by the Revenge (which included the awesome edit of Hot chocolate Cadillac which still stands as his fav edit) this along with hitting the town in Glasgow and ending up in some amazing nights like 'melting pot' 'million dollar disco' and 'solar disco' opened his ears to the emerging pitched down/disco reedit sound. After this Stuart picked up the sound and set up the 'Slo-Mo' club night with some good mates and great local talents. Soon after this He had the lucky break of being heard playing out in Edinburgh and offered a fortnightly Saturday night show on a local internet radio show. After this fell through due to problems with the radio stations building, he set to work at finding a new home.. starting at the top, he sent out two emails with a link to the recently recorded radio show. He surprisingly ended up with two offers from SSradio and chicago house fm. So this brings us up to date.. Stuart cant wait to get started on the launch of Slo-Mo Radio on SS funk and disco. As well as many regular guest gigs in around Edinburgh, Glasgow and further a field. ***hear some recent mixes on soundcloud*** ****** ***facebook search - stuart holbeck***
